The Group of Volunteers Award 2017 – LTA recognises our Summer House Sub committee members
Towards the end of last year, Roger Fowers, Peter Mayell and Ian Gunn were nominated for an award to the LTA. The committee (excluding them), led by Chris Rastin thought that recognition should be sought for their fine work in the activities which resulted in our splendid summer house.
The nomination, approved by the entire committee read as follows:
“Our Tennis Club has a small tennis club room which is part of the Hutton & Shenfield Union Church buildings. The idea of a ‘summer house’ in the tennis club grounds was mooted many years ago with the objective of providing a focal point for tennis players/guests. The Project Team worked tirelessly to:
- obtain agreement from the committee/club members, the church authorities, and grants from the ECLTA which helped us to fulfil this project
- identify a suitable timber building
- have it erected and fitted with electricity, plumbing, and security locks
- arrange furniture and kitchen equipment including a sofa, table/ chairs
- arrange for a patio and patio furniture
The choice of the building and the setting was really carefully considered and progressed. The result has been truly outstanding, both visually and practically. We use it for Finals Weekend, Junior Finals Day, LTA Open Weekend, our Super Saturdays and general use whenever required. The Juniors use it and parents feel comfortable leaving their children in such a safe environment that is set between two courts and away from any roads.
Recently, the patio was extended and further outside furniture was purchased. A really superb effort by our committed Project Team of Ian, Peter and Roger.”
On 10th January, the three were invited to the AGM of the Essex LTA – they had won! We are very lucky to have such a dedicated team on the committee at Hutton and Shenfield Tennis Club – and these three individuals in particular are worthy of this special praise. Congratulations. The award will be on display in the clubhouse for which it was presented.
