LTA – Coronavirus (COVID-19) Guidance
Hutton and Shenfield Lawn Tennis Club are closely monitoring advice from both the LTA and the various Government bodies regarding measures we should be taking to delay COVID-19 (Coronavirus). Although the LTA itself has opted to temporarily stop matches and coaching, it has, up to now, given no guidance on the steps Clubs should be taking, so we propose taking the following position until more clarity is given.
Current Status
- Playing Tennis. At this stage, and until we receive further advice, we feel it is an individual choice as to whether you play tennis or not albeit at your own risk.
- Team matches. No official confirmation but matches unlikely to continue as we and other Clubs may decide to cancel or individuals may opt not to play.
- Member Bookings, Fixed Fours and Social Tennis Sessions. Will continue as normal but with heightened preventative measures (see below).
- Coaching.Junior Coaching, adult coaching and cardio will also continue but with heightened preventative measures (see below).
- Social Events: None planned until it is safe to do so.
The decision around whether other tennis events such as the Club tournament, American Tournaments and Easter Camps take place will be decided nearer the time.
Very Important
To prevent the spread of the virus, we ask all members to observe the following practices for the time being:
- Do not play tennis if you are showing symptoms, including a persistent cough or a fever that means you might be carrying the virus.
- Anyone who has been advised to self-isolate as a result of developing symptoms and/or recent international travel to destinations specified by the Government, should clearly not, therefore, take part in tennis activities for the duration of the self-isolation period.
- No person to person physical contact wherever possible. Avoid congregating in the Club room before or after playing.
- No shaking of hands before or after matches, just touch rackets.
- Frequent hand washing especially before and after playing given the handling of tennis balls. Ideally use the toilets for washing where there is hand wash and paper towels, not the kitchen.
We request that all of our members play their part in minimising the risks. Please do contact Welfare Officer, Matt Dyson on 07834 789164 or mattjdyson@gmail.com or a Committee Member ASAP if you become aware of any cases involving members or visitors.
Clearly the situation is changing by the day and we will provide further email updates to members should new advice be made available.
Thank you
