A special meeting is called
A Special Meeting of the Club was called to consider two shale courts. Shale is a type of clay court and is a similar surface to that played on at the French Open.
Shale is a great surface for beginners and children, as the ball bounces less fast than on tarmac, and older players find it is kinder to their joints.
Here is Carol Bradford and Beryl Dean on our Shale Courts 1 and 2 – this is the Singles Final from 1983. Nice cars in the background too.
